Where should we start?

You don't need to work out whether your child needs a psychologist or a psychiatrist before reaching out. Here's the plain difference between the two.

Psychologist / psychotherapist

Provides talk-based psychological support and therapy. Psychologists do not prescribe medication.

Psychiatrist

A medical doctor who can assess mental health concerns, consider relevant medical factors, diagnose psychiatric conditions where appropriate, and discuss treatment options — including medication when clinically appropriate.

If you're not sure where to start, we'll explain the available options and help you arrange an appointment.

What happens at a first appointment

Psychology

The first conversation helps our specialist understand the situation and think through possible next steps together with you.

A parent can also book an individual consultation with a psychologist to discuss the situation and possible next steps before arranging an appointment for the child, if that feels useful.

Psychiatry

Not every first appointment ends in a diagnosis or a prescription. Sometimes more information or further assessment is needed before the next steps become clear.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether to start with a psychologist or psychiatrist?

A psychologist provides talk-based support and does not prescribe medication. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can assess, diagnose where appropriate, and discuss treatment options including medication. You don't need to decide in advance — we can help you find the right starting point.

What ages do your psychologists work with?

Svetlana Romanchenko sees children and adolescents from age 3. Natalia Gorlova and Natalia Erkina both work with adolescents from age 12. Natalia Ladneva works with adolescents from age 16. There isn't one clinic-wide minimum age — it depends on the specialist.
